Hi Everybody....

I was raised in a home that believed in the AMA. Consequently I was
in and out of hospitals from birth, my six brothers and sisters all had
different things wrong with them like asthma, etc. At 13 years old I had
had seven major operations. At 27 I had chronic symptoms for four
different trips the AMA said were not curable, but were very willing to
treat me for the price. Also, through all of this they insisted that they
were the final judge and jury of what was wrong with MY body.

At 28 it dawned on me that if I wanted a healthy strong body I was going
to need to take responsibility for doing that and I started studying
Macrobiotics. Within two weeks all my symptoms disappeared and I
didn't have but very mild symptoms from colds or flu for the next ten
years, five of which was spent in NYC. I had a Dingo, wild dog of
Australia, who had distemper so bad the Vets had given up on him. I
used macrobiotics and he lived to be the only true macrobiotic I ever
knew. He lived on brown rice porage only, for five years, He was VERY
healthy, beautiful and interestingly intelligent. The story of CuCo is
interesting all by itself.

The next five years I spent in hippy communes, then five in Arizona near
the Hopi, who traditionally are naturally macrobiotic.

I met a girl who wanted to live that way and we got married and started
having kids in Jerome, AZ. at 6000 feet. I delivered all our children at
home in a house that was not very airtight and cold in the winter. My
oldest daughter is now 23 and the number of times my kids have been
to doctors can be counted on my hands and that was for accidents.
There is no doubt in my mind that the AMA's emergency medical is the
best there is, but in preventive medicine they are in the dark ages and
their chemicals area disaster for mankind.

Later, as my wife gave in, more and more to her desires, less care was
given to what the kids ate. So I needed to learn symptomatic medicine,
much to my chagrin, to treat the symptoms that now were popping up.

Dealing with symptoms in childrens diseases can be quite terrifying
and it is easy to surrender and give the responsibility for their health
to someone else. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to hear
your three year old hacking and hacking, almost unable to breath from
croup. It's very terrifying,

Macrobiotics has some treatment for symptoms, but not if your really
eating badly. I started learning herbialism through Jethro Kloss,
I picked him because he had the most experience, had treated the
most patients. I was doing this for about ten people so I didn't learn
very much, but I was able to keep those few well and comfortable. You
need lots of patients and different symptoms to really learn herbs or
else you're stuck doing what someone tells suggests. After my first
child got croup, with Kloss' help I found some herbs that really worked
and I never had that problem again. I can give my kids herbs that can
help the body knock out strept throat in ten minutes.

However, if someone is so self indulgent where they can't control what
they put into their mouths, overeat and use junk food to the point there is
more waste in the body than the body itself, then they should go to the
AMA, they are perfect for each other. Herbs won't help much if a person
won't pay attention to what and how they are putting into their bodys. It
will will be to no advantage to take herbs for a symptom if one insists
on continuing to eat junk foods. Eating less and very carefully is the
secret to a long happy life. If one insists on going against natural laws,

there is no cure for arrogance.

=Heh, heh, Carla is gone for a bit. I, Snarla, have this to say about the
=bigots who maintain that AMA medicine kills and that the worst thing you
=could ever do to yourself is go to a regular doctor.
=
=I know a brother who lost a testicle because some herbalists felt he
=should drink tea for his groin pain.
=
=I know of more than one sister who would have died if they had not had a
=hyterectomy.
=
=People who need insulin to control their diabetes would slowly go blind,
=have their kidneys shut down, lose their limbs if they did not use
=allopathic medicine.
=
=It is not M.D.s who kill, it is ignorance and bigotry. People still have
c=hoices, Mark, and rather than spreading hysteria and mistrust, why not
==focus on the positive aspects of both disciplines?
=
=People need to educate themselves on when any particular type of healing
=is appropriate, not just throw the baby out with the bath water.
=
=Case in point: years ago, I was told by a so-called practitioner from
=CALM that I could keep my teeth and gums in good shape by eating raw
=foods. So I tried that, didn't go to the dentist, ate mostly veggie.
T=oday I am battling gum disease, have lost one tooth to it, and am
=fighting to keep the others. Seems to me, his info was incorrect and
=dangerous. Brush and floss your teeth, see the dentist. Keep your teeth.
=
=I still use alternative medicine for lots of things. But I have learned
=that putting off seeing a doctor just makes a lot of things worse.
=
=Above all, folks, please do not diagose and treat yourselves, unless you
=really know what you have and know what you are doing. Herbal medicine
=can kill, too. Hippies have gone through so many nutritional and healing
=fads: macrobiotics (babies and kids died in the early days, before the
=proponents of the system realized that macrobiotic means more than
=eating beans and nothing else); the sprout craze
=(don't give your baby breast milk, just feed him wheat grass juice); daily
=ingestion of things such as comfrey, pennyroyal, etc., which can be toxic
=in large amounts.
=
=Now the next generation is taking as gospel really bad advice given by
=people like Victorus Kulvinskas, Jethro Kloss, and others.
=
=Please, please, educate yourselves before making serious explorations into
=alternative medicince or nutrition. Do not use just one source to base
=your explorations on. What one book written twenty years ago will
=advocate may be completely contradicted by another one done more recently.

=
=Pregnant and nursing mothers should be especially careful, as should be
p=eople with weakened immune systems, auto-immune diseases, and mystery
=illnesses.
=
=As far as I am concerned, there is nothing worse than a politically
=correct bigot. And you know what, you never see it more obviously than
=you do in regard to issues around healing. An ethical practictioner will
=NEVER say their methods are the only good or right ones. And an ethical
=practitioner will never be threatened by you going to someone else to get
=a second opinion, even if that practitioner is of a totally different
=discipline.
