About a month ago, this information, from the Mid-Atlantic newsletter,

that much better.

CONSENSUS

</center>

August 31 thru September 2 the Mid-Atlantic Family held a council.=20
There was profound respect for the feather, and it was agreed that the
council was very productive.

Among other things, folks discussed the performance of the clan
kitchen in Oregon, and reached the following consensus:

Sensitive to nicknames such as "Bitchin' Kitchen" and "Get Outta the
Kitchen" Sundog Kitchen Crew held a self-examination council.

We pray that we have isolated various ego problems, which generated
bad vibes.

We consensed to changes and committed ourselves to serving even more food
with even more love.

We're not perfect, but we're trying to improve.

See you soon.

<center><bigger>A CRUCIAL FEDERAL CASE

</bigger></center>

At long last, Bill Baxter and Joseph Greenfeather finally have a
court date. .It is October 21, 1997. Time: 10:00 am, Place: United
States District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania, 617 State=20
Street, Erie,. Pennsylvania courtroom B. It's a non-jury trial before
Judge Baxter.

Joseph and Bill are charged with violating the Forest Service's
"Group Use Regulation," which criminalizes gatherings of more than 75
people in a National (public land) Forest.

THIS CASE IS VERY IMPORTANT, .IF THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE WINS IT
WILL BE A BIG NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM.

Courts do not always do the right thing. Even if people don't
realize it, this case will affect the rights of everyone. Since the more
folks that know about this, the better it is for everybody's freedom, it
would be nice to generate press interest in this case.

. HOPE THAT A BUNCH OF FOLKS WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT IN SUPPORT OF FREE
ASSEMBLY. THE COURTROOM SEATS ABOUT 200 AND THERE IS A NICE PARK IN
FRONT OF THE COURT.

After clean-up was completed in Oregon, the local Forest Rangers
wrote:

"We are pleased with the cleanup and rehabilitation efforts by the
Rainbow Family volunteers following the 1997 Gathering on the Big Summit
Ranger District. Your commitment to caring for the land was demonstrated
by your

thoroughness and attention to detail and the District appreciates your
hard work and cooperation in meeting the resource objectives=85 Our
post-gathering walk-through inspections showed that the cleanup
volunteers were highly committed to completing the job.

Additionally, in a separate, official report to the Forest Service,
the District rangers suggested exempting the Rainbow Family from permit
requirements, as well as reducing the "law enforcement" presence at
gatherings.
