Who can tell me...what is the newsgroup "alt.gathering" there for?
I've never found a real message in it (except my own queries, which
never get answered), and rarely find any spam there.

Since all of the people seem to be here (due to association with
"Rainbow", I assume), why was alt.gathering created in the first
place? Were they both created by the same people (this is the only
other newsgroup in the hierarchy)? How old are they, and does anyone
ever post the charters?

Since this seems to be a chatty place, I assume that my questions are
acceptable postings...and that my nosiness will be well received.

We have one on our newsgroup server called "alt.rainbow" which is how we
receive this conference. To make sure info REALLY gets to the newsgroup I
send it cc: to <gathering@cygnus.com>. There is a *chance* that
*alt.gathering* MIGHT be a teenagers' conference/newsgroup for "Magic-The
Gathering"; there is one such conference/newgroup that exists in UseNet. ...
and yes there are UseNet and OneNet "newsgroups" or "conferences" depending
upon your terminology, gateway method, and if you are using a BBS vs.
Internet ISP (directly). I could define further, but that might give you an
idea.
