>>BTW in Oregon on the 2nd or 3rd it was announced @ Dinner Circle (w/
10,000 people on site) that the Magic Hat collected $2,800 or so. I know
that folks donated goods and services to the Family Gathering too but
HEY: IMHO this $ amt. sucks. Not even a buck per gatherer.

>>I light of the additional fresh food requests that have been posted on
AGR since then, add'l $ could have been used. Personally I thought that
the Magic Hat could be better filled PRIOR to the biggest mass of our
family coming home so that we might meet their needs when they arrived.
So I acted accordingly. Did the magic hat collect more in a single
offering from the 4-7th? Will a banking council member report here a
daily report of what was gifted?

>>I hope that bringing this issue into the light will encourage folks to
contribute and doing so generously to the magic hat.

I don't know about Oregon, but I was on the Banking Council in New
Mexico, and from June 10 until July 7 - when it was passed for the last
time - the Magic Hat grossed a little over $17,000. With about 15,000
there (according to USFS estimates), that was about $1.13 per gatherer.

The Mini-Manual and Rap 107 say, "Give EARLY to the Magic Hat." Give all
the money you brought for that purpose the first time it appears to you
- don't space your contributions over several days. The money needs to
be in the kitty BEFORE all the people come, so there is time to go to
the stores and get the stuff before the gathering really becomes
populated. This has been Rainbow dogma for many years.

In the early weeks, the Hat will average $100 or less per evening
circle. In the week before the "official" opening, the Hat will get
several hundred dollars. By June 27 or -8, it will get over a thousand,
and two thousand and change is typical for July 1 - 3.

On July 8, the NM bank had about $1400, which was more than enough for
the two and a fraction weeks of cleanup. The last day before most of the
people finally left, we had a circle where we distributed about $40
worth of rolls of pennies. I kept the $2 bills that Cholly put in, and
gave most of them to Robbie Gordon, who made origami rings out of them.
The bank was completely emptied.

Yes, the Hat can use all the money it gets, but I don't think what it
does get is scandalously low.
