Djembe/Ashiko drum classes with Greg Beck

Dallas: Every Monday, beginning September 29 and ending November 3:

Drum Classes begins Monday, November 10 - December 15

Beginner: 7 - 8:30 PM.....$75. Greg will emphasize rhythms and tone qualities using the "Sing It Play It" method, plus proper technique for striking your drum and basic tuning instruction.

Intermediate/Advanced: 9 - 10:30 pm....$75. Greg will emphasize a deeper level of tone and learning a variety of African rhythms. Drum rentals available for $5 per class.
Each class limited to 20 students..

Denton: Every Tuesday, 6 - 7 pm beginning September 30 and ending October 21 [for 4 weeks] at Voyager's Dream, 1306 W. Hickory, Denton, TX, CALL MIKE 940-381-2769 to reserve your space. Class will be Intermediate. Limited to 20 students.

Doumbek lessons with Jamal Mohamed -

September 13, Saturdays for 6 weeks - $75

2nd Round begins Saturday November 1 for 6 weeks - $75

DETAILS: In beginners class, students are taught basic time-keeping and counting skills, plus techniques on improvising in group drum circles, while learning simple Middle Eastern and Latin rhythms.
In intermediate class, students learn more complex rhythms in unusual time signatures, plus soloing techniques and methods for creating a wide range of sounds from the drum.
TEACHER: Jamal is a percussion instructor and dance accompaniment at SMU. A member of D'Drum and Beledi Ensemble, he has been playing drums for 35 years and has composed soundtracks for theatrical production.

Drum Survey Course with Amy Martin
September 24, Wednesdays, 7 pm for 6 weeks
Survey of world percussion - $35
SMU Continuing Education 214-768-5376.
DETAILS: Get an overview of world rhythm by viewing video tapes in the first class. Learn basic rhythm patterns through hands-on experience using frame and buffalo drums in the second class. Following classes are more in-depth examination of the drums and rhythms from West Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Final class is a world beat drum jam.

DRUM OVERVIEW CLASS with Eric Stuer
September 28, Sunday from 3:15 to 5:15 pm
Party Percussion Class - $35

DETAILS: see and play drums in a mini drum jam.
TEACHER: Eric has been playing drums for 35 years and has boundless enthusiasm for the drum.
