I just got back from the beginning of the Colorado Regional. Interesting is
that on the drive I saw a huge rainbow over the Mountains. :-) During the hike
into the site, (accompanied by Abel, 7 years old, and Deja, 3.5) it snowed
quite a bit as we rounded the last hill of the trail. A really beautiful site.
It was at the end of a long meadow with a thin band of trees topped by large,
snowcovered mountains. There were about 30 people or so at the site, with 10
more back in Bus Village. The 1990 and 1991 regionals were at this same site,
we discussed finding a different site for next year to give this one a
break. The weather varied the whole time between sunny and blue skies, snow,
and hail. Not much accumilation though. Down to around 25 at night. There was
lots of good water at the site and at Bus Village, but the common consensus is
that there wasn't good parking. It was small enough that a school bus wouldn't
fit, and there wasn't really enough room even for the few cars that were there.
The Forest Service's only action was to drop off a big dumpster for trash.
