We are asking you to take such actions as you would deem most
effective in convincing the U.S. Forest Service to abandon
attempts to abridge freedom of Speech and Assembly by means of
proposed regulations amending 36 CFR 251 and 261.
USFS claims these regulations criminalizing exercise of our basic
human rights are needed to protect the Forest environment lose
credibility when contrasted with the impact of Forest Service
policies on timber cutting and mining.
Public Gatherings can provide valuable education in low-impact
enjoyment of the Public Forests, and create a constitutency for
their preservation and enjoyment by future generations.
